Rosacea & Demodex Mites

In an age where what’s old is new again, we read that Rosacea.org is again producing new evidence to support the theory that demodex mites may play a role in the cause of rosacea. Their most recent findings from a study done in Mexico City states that they cannot conclusively say if demodex mites are part of the cause or a part of the result of the papulopustular variant of rosacea.
The demodex mite thrives as all bacteria and germs thrive in an acidic environment, control the acidity of the body and you rob the mite of the environment it requires to thrive. Increase the body’s acidity and your skin and body play host to a wide and ever growing population of mites, bacteria and germs which will further weaken the immune system allowing not only the bacteria, mites and germs to thrive but also promoting adverse skin conditions and a wide range of intestinal/ digestive conditions.

Living with Demodex mites does not have to be part of your rosacea skin problem. Most rosacea patients are not affected by the demodex mite. Also they can be easily eradicated as shown later on this page. A very small minority of humans have demodex mites on their body and with most demodex mites being on the scalp or areas of heavy hair growth and normally live within the hair follicles or near it for oil as their food. A very high demodex population can be affect the skin however, but the skin can easily altered to change the environment for growth.

Rosacea is not caused by the demodex mite, however, it can be irritated by the demodex mite for those with advanced aging or those with a very weak body and immune system with various skin disorders and without new cell regeneration. Demodex mites (demodex folliculorum) is a type of parasite that lives in the hair follicles of mammals and specifically to dogs and less to cats and even to a lesser degree in humans. Demodex mites are very common in dogs and other animals while the demodex mite has only been found on 5% of all humans. And those with rosacea, eczema, psoriasis and other skin disorders are more likely to be a carrier for the demodex mite than the more healthy person with a better immune system. So first try to eliminate the source in our dogs and raise the immune system for both the dog and of the rosacea patient. Washing your dog or other animals and frequent washing of the scalp is the first place to start.

The demodex mite is normally harmless and feeds on the oils of the hair follicles in the scalp most often. As the body becomes more stressed by adrenaline, more sebaceous oil is produced generating more body oil for the mites to live upon and more skin cell production in the scalp known as dandruff or a flaking scalp that itches likewise providing more food substance for the mite to thrive. The best solution is to try to ‘de-stress your body, mind and life’ as recommended on our Rosacea-Ltd IV Lifestyles Page and our Cause or Etiology and Cure page.

The food supply of sebaceous oil and dead skin cells can be removed. Taking a bath or shower along with shampooing the hair at least every 2 days with an anti-dandruff shampoo. And bath with one of the two soaps below will remove the food supply.

Neutrogena (the transparent facial bar) “dry skin formula – fragrance free”

Dove ‘Sensitive Skin Unscented Beauty Bar’

The use of Rosacea-Ltd IV provides an environment on the face and scalp that the demodex mites can not live in. Try to change the environment that makes a good habitat for the demodex mite as mentioned above. “The only thing we can change is ourselves, and sometimes that changes everything.”
